Walk Across Tennessee, Sullivan County

Walk Across Tennessee is an 8-week walking program designed to encourage friends and family to join a walking team and walk as many miles as you can. We want to encourage you to make a team goal to walk 440 miles (approximately the length of Tennessee) over the course of the eight weeks.

WHO: Anyone can participate–no age limit!

The primary goal is to help Sullivan County meet national physical activity guidelines. Everyone is welcome to join!

Some suggestions of team categories: families, friends, work sites, teachers, youth (under age 18), seniors (65+), faith-based members, general (a combination of above).

HOW: Register above by clicking the registration button.
Assemble your team, team name, and captain BEFORE you register. Team captains will register their team online.

Categories
Participants may choose to compete as a team or individual.

TEAMS
– Teams will have a 3-6 members. 
– Teams will choose a unique team name to identify them during the challenge. 
– Team members will track personal miles and share with team captain who will report miles for the team each Monday using a digital mileage log.
– a participant can only join ONE team.

CLASSROOMS
– Teams will have a maximum 30 members, including the teacher should he/she wish to participate. 
– Team members will track personal miles and share with teacher/team captain who will report miles for the team each Monday using a digital mileage log.
– a participant can only join ONE team.

INVIIDUALS
– Participants participating independently will report individual mileage.

Record the number of minutes you spend being physically active each day. Any moderate to vigorous physical activity – the type that increases your heart rate – counts

Is just walking allowed?

No! You can do any type of physical activity if you increase your heart rate or break a sweat. National physical activity guidelines recommend that adults achieve at least 150 minutes of aerobic physical activity and two strength training sessions per week.

  • Gardening or yard work

*Eligible miles will be recorded Monday to Sunday with submissions due each on Monday by noon.

Track miles in the way that is easiest for you! Wearable fitness trackers, pedometers, etc.

*If you are competing as a team/classroom, only the team captain will report miles for the entire team.

If you are competing as an individual, you will log and report your own miles.
