4-H Animal Science Programs

All youth in the 4th through 12th grades may be involved in learning more about the 4-H Animal Science projects through our local Livestock and Horse project groups.   The Sullivan County 4-H Livestock project group focuses primarily on the Beef Cattle, Sheep, Goat, Poultry, and Veterinary Science projects.  The group meets monthly during the school year and participates in livestock shows and camps during the summer months.  Members are not required to own an animal to participate in this group; they must simply have an interest in these project areas.   Some of the livestock events members may participate in include:

  • 4-H Chick Chain
  • Exhibiting beef cattle, sheep or goats through 4-H shows and local fairs.
  • Livestock Judging Teams
  • Club field trips

The Silver Spurs 4-H Horse Club is our county wide horse group that meets monthly during the school year.  At monthly meetings members are introduced to various equine topics and learn through presentations, guest speakers, hands on activities, farm visits and more!  Youth interested in the Horse project may also compete on judging teams throughout the year at events like:  Horse Bowl & Hippology (January) or Horse Judging (April).  4-H members also have opportunities to exhibit their riding skills in 4-H Horse Shows.
